A day at la Sabranenque


Wake up gently…
The sun is up.  It is 7:15am and the early birds can walk the paved pathways of the old village to the kitchen, for a traditional French breakfast that will give you the strength for the morning activities to come.
Coffee, milk, tea, fruit, bread, butter and jam all await the worthy volunteers!  For the most part breakfast is enjoyed around a big table outside on the patio, where chirping birds either accompany the chatty volunteers or the calm of the village.
Fortunately for those that like to sleep in, or for those that went to bed late, breakfast is available until 8:15am.

A creative morning shared by all…
At 8:30am the bustling of the shovels, buckets, and other tools announce the start of the morning work, which involves all volunteers until 12:00 noon.
During the summer sessions, two of the participants, different every morning and afternoon, will stay in the kitchen with Magali, to discover and concoct regional and seasonal recipes that will delight their friends on the work site.  These two kitchen aids will also be in charge of doing the dishes at the end of the meal, with the help of everyone else of course.

A meal well earned…
Lunch will arrive in a timely fashion.  We will all share this meal (a very convivial moment) at 12:30, on the large outside patio, sheltered from the sun.

 

In the afternoons…
For the summer volunteers the afternoons are free to either take advantage of the sun, or the shade (it is often quite hot!) of several quiet, tucked away corners of the old village.  Some may prefer to take a walk in the surrounding hills, or take a stroll around St Victor; or even adventure off to see the region (if of course they have a car, or even with the regular bus service available in the village).
However, it is also possible to partake in the afternoon work activities with Ginou, Marcel, Sarah and Pascal, helping prepare for the next days work.
The volunteers participating in the May and October sessions will either go for a hike or visit several monuments of the region with one of the trusty staff members.

An evening to share…
At 7:30pm we gather around the table for a comforting dinner.  At the end of the meal there is always a spectacular cheese plate to accompany a glass of wine from the region (in France there are 365 different kinds of cheese and the Côtes du Rhône region produces a wine of high quality).
We taste, we chat, and we enjoy the sun that sets late… Volunteers are free to do as they please in the evening.
Whether you go to sleep early, or late we all have to gather the next day for work, on time and happy!
